Travis Johnson a.k.a. Young Smokesta was born December 26, 1985 in Americus, GA. At age 9 is when he moved to Augusta with his family and this is where he discovered his love for hip hop. The name 'Young Smokesta' comes from a friend that once said the style and lyrics of YS have the ability to make you choke like when you've inhaled too much smoke. Cuntri Boi and Mr. Unpredictable are alter egos that Travis uses in his lyrics. Smokesta doesn't have the lyrical style of the typical rapper now..he has his own individual thing going that consists of southern hip-hop with a blend of crunkness and a sprinkle of R&B. YS says his influences musically have been Michael Jackson, Master P, Kanye West, Lil' Jon, Nelly, Jagged Edge, and 'Puffy' Combs. Smokesta was one of the featured artists on the 2004 MIC compilation and he has performed in various local shows to include the Mayfest, an annual event sponsored by Augusta GA radio station, Foxie 103.
