So This Is Love

Glen Agritelley Bio:

It started in the '60s when I played the guitar and sang with a garage band. Singing has been a lifelong passion and here I have the opportunity to share some of my personal favorite songs. A lifetime of inspiration supplied by the one and only Roy Orbison continued to drive me to see a lifelong dream come true and release this CD, So This Is Love. As the largest private collector of Roy Orbison memorabilia, I continue to be inspired by the man and his music. Having underwritten a play launched in Nashville, TN, whose subject was Roy and Elvis working on a joint concert together, I had the great fortune to meet Roy's lead guitar player, Bucky Barrett. He and I have become fast friends and collaborated on many projects. Bucky has performed for several Roy tribute events in Dallas, at my clothing store and at Mercy Wine Bar. (www.mercywinebar.com). What started out as a jam session with Bucky playing and my singing turned into So This Is Love, my debut CD. The title song is one that Roy Orbison wrote along with Bill Dees, famous co-writer of many of the big hits Roy had in the '60s. Roy never recorded this song, but several years ago Bill Dees did. It gives me great satisfaction to have it as the title song.

After many successful years in business I made a career change to pursue my passions: tennis and music. I presently own several companies in Dallas, one of which I opened in 2003 and named Mercy Wine Bar (www.mercywinebar.com). Mercy is inspired by the Roy Orbison song Oh Pretty Woman. In the second verse he sings, no one can look as good as you......MERCY. After the first year of being open Dallas's D Magazine voted Mercy the best wine bar in Dallas.

So This Is Love is a compilation of love songs that are all special to me. Most of these I have listened to and appreciated for years and years. Some of them are timeless ballads that were originally done by Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison, but these are not the ones that you would easily recognize. We have taken some liberties and done our own arrangement of Roy's famous song, Only The Lonely. Roy only recorded one Christmas song, written by Willie Nelson: Pretty Paper. Willie Nelson told me personally that no one sang this song as well as Roy. It is on the CD as a tribute to Roy and Willie. One of the most romantic songs ever written is Twelfth of Never. Johnny Mathis is the master of this tune. John Denver originally did Thanks To You. Although it is not one of his top hits, it is one of his most beautiful songs.

What is most exciting is the team of people who are supporting me in this project. This will be the very first time that former members of the Roy Orbison band and Elvis Presley band have performed together. Scotty Moore, D.J. Fontana and the Jordanaires are some of the players you'll enjoy, backing me up along with Bucky Barrett and Jim Turbo Kirby from Roy's band. Many of the songs that the former members of the Elvis band are playing here did the original recordings in the '50s and '60s and are now supporting me on So This Is Love. Working with all of them has been a dream come true and a true experience. I can only imagine what it must have been like in the '50s and '60s being in the studio with Elvis and Roy and these guys. You get the sense that they were having a ball making history and a ton of great music. What a thrill to work with these great legends. Every one of them is incredible in his own right. They are still having a ball and making great music.
